Acne Scar Treatment And Four Types of Scars

There are many methods for treating acne. Acne scars treatment methods are varied, depending on age and type of wound.

Four Types of Acne Scars

They are ice pick, boxcar rolling and keloid. All acne scars need different treatment.

  • Ice pick scars are narrow, sharp scars that make skin appear it was punctured with an icepick. They are too deep to correct with skin resurfacing treatment as dermabrasion or laser.
  • Boxcar scars are round to oval that have sharp vertical edges. These can be treated with skin resurfacing. Deep boxcar scars require full-thickness treatment styles.
  • Rolling scars give the skin a rolling or undulating appearance. They are treated by breaking up the subcutaneous fibrous bands.
  • Keloid scars are more commonplace at the upper chest, shoulders, head (specifically the earlobes after a piercing) and neck, however they are able to show up everywhere.Early keloid traces are frozen with liquid nitrogen to stop their growth.

Getting rid of acne scar

Dermal fillers can be injected into the scars to raise the skin surface for a smooth look. The injection does not permanently correct scars so future injections are needed. A Punch Excision surgically corrects deep scars such as icepick or boxcar. If after the procedure is done, the scar is still noticeable, resurfacing treatments can be done. If needed, there can also be a skin graft replacement in addition to the punch excision. Punch elevation is another surgical method used on deep scars. Subcutaneous incision, known as Subcision, breaks up the fibrous bands causing rolling scars. Using local anesthesia, a beveled needle is inserted. Bruising occurs and fades after one week.

Laser treatment for acne scars

Laser resurfacing is another treatment. Carbon dioxide and erbium lasers can be used. It burns the top layers of skin, then the skin heals itself with newer appearing skin. The laser is the most popular treatment.
